Safari Blue is a wonderful experience and is a must, even for those who do not like snorkelling.
Guests are picked up from their hotel and taken to Fumba in SE Zanzibar where they board a dhow (Arab sailing boat). The boats are quite new, are fitted with outboard motors and navigation equipment, and guests are issued with life jackets.
The dhow heads off into the Indian Ocean and there is an 80% chance of seeing dolphins. The dhow then lands on a sandbank, where excellent snorkelling instructors and equipment await you. Guests are divided into groups according to their ability. Those who are inexperienced are given instruction on how to use the equipment and snorkel. Each group has at least 2 experienced leaders. Snorkelling off the coral reef is exhilarating, with opportunities to view a wide range of colourful, tropical fish.
On returning to the sandbank sun shades have been erected and there are coconuts and ice cold soft drinks.
A short sail takes guests to a desert island where barbecued slipper lobster, chicken and a wide range of fish have been prepared. The food is served with ice cold soft drinks and beer. The main course is followed by TEN tropical fruits, Zanzibari spiced coffee and Amarula (S.African cream liquor).
The afternoon can either be spent sun bathing, swimming or visiting a natural lagoon surrounded by mangrove forest. The return journey to Fumba is under sail.
Safari Blue is a marvellous experience as testified by two students, who independently told us it had been ‘the best day of their lives’. We include Safari Blue in all our itineraries for those guests staying in Zanzibar.
