Discover Tanzania uses 40 hotels, guest house, tented camps and lodges on the Tanzanian mainland and Zanzibar. They have been chosen partly because they are either owned by Tanzanians and/or employ mainly local people and for the majority, especially those outside the towns, they have relatively low impact on the environment.

All the accommodation has been vetted by Discover Tanzania's founder, David Thompson. David has stayed in each hotel, guest house, tented camp and lodge as an unannounced, paying guest and a full description of each can be accessed by clicking the links.

All the accommodation has been given a rating based on facilities, service, ambiance and food. David has attempted to equate the rating for the hotels and guest houses to US and European standards. The rating for accommodation in the national parks and game reserve uses the same criteria, but measures them against similar accommodation.
